Eratosthenes in 1st  Kindergarten of Pylos (Greece) 

Since 2015, 24 students aged 4-6 years old of the 1st  Kindergarten of Pylos are participating to the Eratosthenes project.

The school is located in the southern part of Greece, Messinia in the charming and historic Pylos of King Nestor.

 

The students experiment by themselves about sources of light, the rectilinear propagation of light and the formation of shadows.

The Eratosthenes Festivity has become an annual tradition that takes place every year on 21 June at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and 20 and 21 June at the city of Aswan. It is designed for preparatory school students, and includes a series of activities that revolve around the methodology Eratosthenes used in measuring the Earth’s circumference 2000 years ago.

Amazing videoconference for the Eratosthenes workshop of Open Mathematics in Ben Arous (Tunisia). All the measures were made just before the videoconference and we had a live calculation of the circumference of the Earth with partners from Europe, Africa, Asia and America
